a. Define Network/ Computer network?

Ans: Computer network is the connection of two or more computers with the help of cable or without cable to exchange data or information.

b. List any five services of computer network.

Ans: The five services of computer network are File services, Print services, Message services, Application services, Database services.

c. List any two advantages and two disadvantages of computer network.

Ans: The two advantages of computer network are as follows:

  • It can share hardware and software.
  • People can communicate with each other.
  • It supports centralized administration.

Ans: The two disadvantages of computer network are as follows:

  • It is less secure.
  • There is a high chances of virus and malware transmission.
  • The initial setup cost is very high.

d. Define LAN, MAN, WAN.

Ans: LAN stands for local area network. LAN is a network that connects a group of computers in a small area like room, building, school etc.

MAN stands for metropolitan area network. MAN is a network of computer which spread over a city or town.

A wide area network is a computer network that covers a large geographical area comprising a region, a country, a continent or even the whole world.

e. Define network architecture.

Ans: Network architecture can be defined as the physical and logical design of the software, hardware, protocols and media.

f. What is the communication(transmission) media?

Ans: A channel or path through which data travels from one place to another or from one computer to another computer is known as transmission media.

g. Write the bandwidth of coaxial cable and fiber optics cable.

Ans: The bandwidth of coaxial cable is 10 to 100 Mbps and the bandwidth of fiber optics cable is 100 Gbps.

h. Define radio waves and microwaves.

Ans: Radio waves are electronic signals which is used for communication through air.

Microwaves is a line-of-sight wireless communication technology that uses high frequency beams of radio waves to provide high speed wireless connections.

i. What is infrared transmission?

Ans: Infrared transmission is a unbound photonic solution that uses a red light to transmit information.

j. What is the distance of geostationary orbits from the earth’s surface?

Ans: The distance of geostationary orbits from the earth’s surface is 36000 KM.

k. Define bluetooth?

Ans: Bluetooth is a low cost, low power , wireless radio frequency technology that allows various devices to communicate with each other.

l. Define simplex, half-duplex, full- duplex mode of transmission.

Ans: When the transmission of data takes place in only one direction then we call it simplex mode of data transmission. eg. radio, television

When the transmission of data takes place in both direction but only one direction at a time is called half-duplex mode of data transmission. eg walkie-talkie.

When the transmission of data takes palce in both direction at the same time then we called it full-duplex mode of data transmission. eg mobile, telephone.

m. What is router?

Ans: Router is an intelligent device which connects similar and dissimilar LANs together.

n. What is gateway?

Ans: Gateway is a network connectivity devices that interconnects two networks having dissimilar communication protocols.

o. What is NIC?

Ans: A network interface card (NIC) is the hardware component through which the computer is connected to the network.

p. Write one difference between hub and switch.

It is a device with multiple ports for connecting different computers on network.It is a devices that connects multiple computers to share information among them.

q. Define network topology.

Ans: Network topology is defined as the physical arrangements of nodes and connections in a network. Each computers or devices in a network is called nodes.

r. What is protocol?

Ans: A protocol is a set of rules that governs or controls the transmission of data over a communication network.

s. Other than transferring files what else FTP can do?

Ans: Other than transferring files FTP can also upload and download files in internet.

t. What is the work of POP?

Ans: The work of POP is to retrieve email messages from the email server.

u. Define Internet?

Ans: Internet is the network of network. It is the largest computer network that connects millions of computers around the world.

Ans: The two services of internet are:
